The Gulf Beaches provide 28 miles of white sand for all types of beach activities. The Gulf Beaches are the home of the Seabird Sanctuary and two local Historical Museums, one on the north end of the beach and the other on the south end. There are 2 county parks, both are located directly on the Gulf of Mexico. Sand Key Park is just south of Clearwater. On the west side of the park, there are public restrooms and showers and beautiful white sandy beaches. Fort Desoto County Park is 28 miles south of Sand Key, along the boundary of St. Petersburg and St. Pete Beach.  The Fort was built in  1898 and offers a self guided tour.  The park consists of 900 acres and houses 2 fishing piers, picnic areas, nature trails, swimming, boat ramp, and a 235 site camping area.

Biking, roller blading, jogging or walking
The Pinellas Trail offers a 34 mile challenge for biking, roller blading, jogging or walking. This trail goes from Tarpon Springs at the north end to St. Petersburg in the south. This trail replaced the rail road tracks that use to be used throughout the county and now offers a safe trail for natural pleasures. Motorized vehicles are prohibited. Pets may be walked along the trail on a leash.

Two waterfront campgrounds are located on our beaches, The KOA in Madeira Beach and Fort Desoto Park Campgrounds. Try pitching a tent and roll out the sleeping bag or maybe you will want to rent a log cabin or just pull up in your RV and start grilling the hotdogs.
